Twitter has announced the introduction of its new shopping feature, Product Drops. The feature will help brands engage with followers and keep them informed about product launches, with reminders when the launch is imminent.
It’s an innovative feature for the platform and a way to bring in a shopping focus and native product support.
How do Product Drops work?
When a brand tweets about an upcoming launch, you can sign up for notifications via a “Remind me” button. If you want to see more about the product before signing up, click on the tweet and you’ll be taken to the full product details page which shows information including price, images, description and a clickable hashtag to see what other shoppers are saying about the product.
On the day of the launch, you’ll get an in-app message in your Notifications tab 15 minutes before, and again at the time of the drop.
When you click on the notification you see a “Shop on website” button to purchase the item on the merchant’s website.
The feature is currently available to users in the US in English on iOS devices, and is being tested with selected partners. Twitter says some of the brands with upcoming drops include: Dior, Fossil, Jeff Staple, Home Depot and Lego.
Merchants often tweet about upcoming product launches. With high demand brands, sales can be over in minutes so if you’re late you miss out. Product Drops looks to be a useful feature on Twitter which will be helpful to merchants and also to their followers, making it easier for them to stay on top of product launches.
