Google has unveiled a new look for the trending now report in Google Trends. The new design features a more user-friendly interface, with more data on the page and additional filter options, making it more helpful and easier to use.
You can sort by:
- Country / region
- Time
- All trends or active trends only
- Title, search volume, recency or relevance
Here’s what it looks like:
Available data includes:
- When the phrase began trending
- Search volume
- Trend breakdown (details of other queries considered variants of or related to the same search)
- A chart showing the past 24 hours
You can export the data to csv, your clipboard or an RSS feed.
Google Trends provides insights across a wide range of topics and is widely used by retailers, marketers and content creators, among others, to track trends and uncover new ones.

Separately, Google has published the first in a new video series on Google Trends and how to get the most out of the tool.
The introductory episode deals with some fundamental questions such as how Google collects and processes the data.
- Trends provides a statistically significant random sample of search query data. This allows Google to provide data quickly while making sure it’s still representative of overall trends.
- The data is cleaned and aggregated to remove noise. This ensures user privacy and removes outlier terms — those searched by only very few people, or searched repeatedly in a short timeframe by the same person.
- The data is normalised to make it easier to compare, so the highest point in the data range is 100 and all other points are adjusted relative to this.
Google Search Advocate Daniel Waisberg goes to make a start with how to use the tool, and explains some of the terminology. Future videos will focus in more detail on the tool capabilities and how to get the most out of Google Trends.
