Meta has announced that its AI assistant is to incorporate real-time search results from Google. Meta AI, powered by Llama 3, was launched in September 2023 with results from Bing. It’s the first AI model which will have real-time search results from both Google and Bing and a further evolution of the search experience.
AI models such as ChatGPT were built with historical datasets. Incorporating real-time results from traditional search engines like Google and Bing marks another advance in the potential impact of AI assistants on the search industry.
Meta AI's search function sits seamlessly within Meta’s ecosystem with integrated search boxes at the top of its apps and glasses. You can search with Meta AI across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger accessing real-time information without switching between platforms.
Meta AI will also appear in the main Facebook feed where you can ask it a question directly from a post. In addition, a new website meta.ai has been created, making it available on the web for the first time, with conversations saveable for future reference.
The emergence of generative AI and chatbot models is changing the way we access information, and these changes are going at speed. Integrating real-time results from both Bing and Google marks another step forward in search, bringing together traditional and conversational search right within the user’s preferred social app. SEO strategies may need to evolve and adapt as the trend towards conversational queries and use of chatbots continues to develop.
