The first core algorithm update for 2020 was announced by Google on Monday 13th Jan via Twitter.
As is now usual, Google pre-announced and named the update and confirmed when it had started rolling out.
In general, Google rolls out these core updates every few months. The last core update was in September 2019, although there was also a local search update in November.
As yet there is no information about the focus or impact of the update, but we’ll be keeping an eye on developments.
There isn’t necessarily anything specific you can do if your site drops in the rankings. Google says there may not be anything to fix, and you should continue to focus on providing the best possible content.
Google issued broad advice on how to respond to core updates back in August, including a list of questions to focus on if your site is affected.
