YouTube has announced the launch of their Search Insights tool which will roll out to all creators by the end of April. The tool was first previewed by the company last November.
In a video on their Creator Insider channel, YouTube said the tool was designed to significantly improve content planning and to help creators to make more relevant content by providing data showing what people are searching for.
You’ll be able to research search terms and see data both for searches across YouTube and for your own viewers.
Content Gap
A Content Gap filter helps you identify areas where there’s a shortage of suitable content, which you might then usefully fill. It provides a great opportunity for creators to produce the right content to fill a gap where there’s currently a lack of relevant, good quality material on a searched-for topic.
YouTube’s Search Insights preview showed the Content Gap search volume results bucketed into the categories of High | Low | Medium.
How to access
To access Research Insights (also known as the Research tab), you need access to YouTube Studio on desktop.
Log into your account, go to YouTube Studio and then to Analytics via the left navigation. From there, click on the Research tab.

Search Insights will be fully available by the end of the month, so the Research tab might not yet be showing for you. (It’s not showing for us yet).
Data will be available for English-language search terms only for the following regions: US, UK, Canada, Australia and India. However YouTube says it is working on rolling out to more languages and regions as soon as possible
